February 4, 2026
Ensemble voice cast features Daryl McCormack, Mia McKenna-Bruce, Anna Maxwell Martin, Paterson Joseph, Vincent Tong, with Chris O’Dowd and Mark Rylance.
Studio 100 International, Studio BlueGreen (formerly On The Edge Productions) and Viva Pictures, reveal further details of their animated feature film On The Edge, including an outstanding international voice cast, as production moves toward a worldwide cinema release in 2027.
Directed by renowned animation talent Octavio Rodriguez (Ron’s Gone Wrong; Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse; Coco), On The Edge stars Daryl McCormack (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande; Twisters; Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery; Bad Sisters), BAFTA Rising Star Mia McKenna-Bruce (Persuasion; Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials), Anna Maxwell Martin (Line of Duty; Motherland), Paterson Joseph (Peep Show; Wonka), Vincent Tong (LEGO Ninjago; Ratchet & Clank) – as well as Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids; This Is 40; The IT Crowd) and Academy Award and BAFTA winner Mark Rylance (The BFG; Bridge of Spies; Dunkirk; Wolf Hall). The film is shaping up to be a brave, high-energy and uproarious animated adventure that blends humor, heart, and contemporary relevance.
On The Edge stars a motley crew of forgotten, misfit, endangered animals, led by Donnie, a Cuban solenodon with a nose for adventure, on a worldwide quest in search of survival, freedom, and as many free snacks as they can eat.
With all the world-class animation and design expected of a premium global animated release, Donnie and friends refuse to go extinct quietly, setting out on an epic quest to crash the world tour of Peng – the superstar panda and hero of PANDALAND – to discover how fame and “huggability” kept him alive.
Along the way, Donnie haphazardly recruits, amongst others, Vy, a sassy, loyal, and fiercely independent aye-aye; Kiki, a flightless kakapo parrot and powerhouse of kindness and optimism; and Roman, an overly dramatic Jamaican funnel-eared bat. Together, the group bonds as they embrace ridiculous disguises, daring escapes, and even a spectacularly botched heist, discovering how empathy, courage, laughter, and friendship can fend off the most terrifying prospect of all: total extinction. This unique crew of misfits show us that families come in all shapes and sizes and that even the weirdest of creatures can make the most unforgettable of heroes.
On The Edge is unlike any other animation on the global theatrical release stage, and this uniqueness goes far beyond its refreshingly different characters and storyline. The film was originated by Studio BlueGreen, a not-for-profit creative studio telling nature stories in unique, entertainment-led formats to increase our connection with nature and support global conservation efforts. This bold and unconventional approach for impact will extend right across the film’s content and international marketing campaign. The charitable ethos at the heart of the film offers access to renowned nature-loving celebrities and some of the most popular content creators across the world.
Director Octavio Rodriguez said: “This film truly is the little engine that could. We set out to create a story that is heartfelt, genuine, and funny, and I believe we accomplished exactly what we intended. It’s a story that can further build on the human-animal bond by tapping into the inherent empathy within all of us. I am incredibly proud of us hitting the mark and making a film that I believe can stand the test of time. With such a great cast, every character has a distinctive personality. I am very sure that every viewer will find one of our animal personalities they deeply connect with.”
Beth Blood, producer and founder of Studio BlueGreen, added, “Many movies claim to be so much more than a film. On The Edge is one of the very few premium-quality, globally animated releases to live up to this claim because we originated this film not for our personal profit but to achieve impact. At its heart, this movie is about using the joy and emotive power of the very best in animated storytelling, to foster a love of our planet and the incredible animals, species, and ecosystems that populate it.”
On The Edge is written by Laura Dockrill and Michael Ryan, and is a collaboration between Studio BlueGreen, Studio 100 International, On the Edge Animation AIE, Able & Baker, Telegael, and Viva Pictures. The film is distributed internationally by Studio 100 Film and by Viva Kids in the US and Canada.
